Padel Players to Look Out For in 2022

October 22, 2021

Now that padel is rapidly becoming more popular all over the world, this also means that more talented players are being discovered. Top padel players now have to compete for their position with new players which makes the padel championships even more exciting. If you’re one of the people who have recently discovered padel and have spent their time researching as much as they can about the sport, you won’t want to miss this blog! If you’re fully up to date with the game rules, have found your local padel courts and perhaps even played your first game of padel, it’s now time for you to learn more about the padel players you should watch out for in 2022.

Who are the best padel players in the world?

Whilst padel has made its entrance in the UK in the past few years, the sport has actually been really popular for decades in parts of Europe. Especially in Spain, Italy, Argentina and other countries that typically have a warmer climate. If you look at the rankings of the top 100 padel players in the World Padel Tour, it’s safe to say that almost 90% is either from Spain or Argentina.

The 31 year old Francisco Navarro Compán (from Spain, of course) is currently one of the best and most famous and influential padel players in the world. But looking at the classifications of the World Padel Tour, Francisco Navarro Compán is currently in third place, competing with Alejandro Galán Romo and Juan Lebrón Chincoa above him. In the women’s competitions, the top 3 padel players is – not so surprisingly – also formed by Spanish women. This year, Gemma Triay Pons is the absolute best female padel player in the world.

Best UK padel players

Looking at the rankings of the top 100 padel players in the world, it’s definitely time for some British padel players to step up and claim their positions in the world championship. Do we see that happening soon? While Spanish and Argentenian players still have the upper hand in the championship, there are some British padel players that have proven their talent. One of the best UK padel players is John Leach, who is a London based professional tennis and padel instructor who captained the Great Britain padel team in four championships and has reached #1 on the LTA Padel Tour. Sam Jones is another well-performing player who has entered the top charts. He’s only 21 years old but he’s had a very promising career in padel so far!

New padel players to follow in 2022

We would definitely say Sam Jones is one of the new padel players to watch out for in 2022. He is one of the youngest players in the top charts but has made great improvements in his career in the past few years. But looking at the players outside of the top 20 in the World Padel Tour rankings, we definitely see a couple of players who are performing well. Javier Garrido Gómez and Juan Martín Díaz Martínez are two Spanish padel players who are slowly but steadily moving their way up the charts and we wouldn’t be surprised to see them in the top 10 in 2022.
